The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin soror meaning sister, and optima meaning best. And so Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as ‘the best for women’.

That definitely sums up these women…

Huge congratulations to our four students who achieved such great success in the local heats of the Soroptimist Girls’ Public Speaking Competition, which was hosted by Coláiste na Toirbhirte. The girls faced incredibly tough competition from Bandon Grammar School, Sacred Heart Secondary School Clonakilty and Mount St. Michael, Rosscarbery. First place went to Andrea Burke, second place to Ariana Rubika and third place to Ailbhe Guedan. Well done to Martha O’ Donovan, who also delivered a super speech on the night.

Huge thanks to Gillian Powell for organising and to the adjudicators and time-keepers. Lastly well done and thanks to Ms.Keating for organising and preparing our students.
