6th and 5th year Physics and Maths students were treated to a very informative talk by two Cork engineers Colm and Eabha (the latter who is a past pupil of Colnato). Both work with Alcon Ireland, a biomaterials plant based on the Model Farm Rd in Cork. Alcon specialise in the designing and manufacturing of eyecare products such as contact lenses and internal optical lenses. They gave a great overview of the science behind their operation and the vast range of skilled workers responsible for the making of their products. They also discussed the many great opportunities available in the industry for those who choose to pursue science degrees in third level education in Ireland.
