Huge congratulations to Team Velocitas who won the Social Media Award in the National Final of the F1 in Schools Ireland engineering competition in Galway today! The students were given the challenge of designing a minature formula 1 car, which was raced in time trials at the finals. In addition to designing and racing the car, the students also had to produce enterprise, engineering and technical drawings portfolios. The team narrowly missed out on reaching the knockout stages but their achievements at the final are immense, considering it was the first time the school has entered a competition of this nature.The team consisted of Eimear Daly, Roisin Curtin, Cliodhna Mellerick, Orlaith O Driscoll, Morgan Thompson and Rachael Gaffney. The team would like to acknowledge their sponsors, Kevin O Leary car dealership (main sponsor), Bandon Motors and also Twomey-Precision Engineering Ltd for their help in manufacturing the car.
