Well done to all our third year students who organised a ‘mock general election’  for the school today. It was hugely successful, culminating in a visit from TG4 to record the proceedings and also a visit by Tim Lombard to check on proceedings. Today’s event has followed weeks of preparation by all students. Thank you to our local candidates who gave of their time to call to the school. Michael Collins, Tim Lombard, Evie Nevin, Claire O’ Callaghan, Aindrias Moynihan and Christopher O’Sullivan took on board the queries of the students. The students in each class then canvassed on behalf of the various candidates. Needless to say, the last few days have been exciting as tensions have risen in the Cork South West Constituency. We also had reporters who conducted opinion polls and exit polls, in addition to reporting on the count. Our Presiding Officers and Returning Officers ensured all ran smoothly today. Thank you to our staff and students who engaged so fully with the process. More photos to follow but watch out for TG4 (7pm tonight).
And of course, we all wait with anticipation to see if the elected Cork South West candidates mirror the results of our own election. Michael Collins was elected in the first count. Holly Cairns in the fifth count, where she reached the quota following the transfers from eliminated candidates. Christopher O’Sullivan was narrowly elected as the third candidate. Tim Lombard very narrowly missed out but who knows what will happen tomorrow once the ‘real’ count begins……
