21 November is a very important date for all CEIST schools in the Presentation tradition. On this day Presentation Day is celebrated and the life and legacy of Nano Nagle is remembered. This year the celebrations will be particularly special as we prepare to mark the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the Congregation.
On Christmas Eve, 1775, Nano Nagle and three of her companions took vows as religious sisters in the city of Cork. The Congregation was originally named ‘Sisters of the Charitable Instruction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.’ This foundation was the fruit of more than twenty years of loving service to the poor of Cork city where she had founded her first school as a lay woman, in 1754. From then until now generations of Presentation Sisters have worked tirelessly to continue this legacy.
Yesterday, 3 of our current staff members visited the Presentation Sisters, retired members of Coláiste na Toirbhirte, in Bandon Convent.
