The Psychslam competition is run by the Psychology Department in UCC. The competition requires teams to present in a specific format on a wide range of topics. Our students’ topic was, ‘Why do we enjoy scary stories’. The team presented their research in a novel way, using a podcast format, highlighting the different reasons why some people are drawn to scary stories or movies and others are not. The research focused on academic readings and surveys conducted on students in the school. Well done to the students for all their hard work.

]]> Southern Star visit https://presbandon.ie/southern-star-visit/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 11:32:05 +0000 https://presbandon.ie/southern-star-visit/ On Monday last, our Newspaper Club paid a visit to The Southern Star offices in Skibbereen and had a very interesting and informative day learning all about the inner working of the Southern Star Newspaper. Our students learned all about the editing and composition of the newspaper, how print media is adapting to the online world and spoke to several members of staff all about their various roles as journalists & editors etc. Many thanks to Sean Mahon & Sally Collins for accommodating us and being so generous with their time.

Taking part in this walk, in memory of Anne means a lot to us. Walking together as a year group, we hope to create a space where stories are shared and memories are honoured. Every step taken on the morning is a tribute and every donation will help us make a difference. All are welcome to join us on the walk, donate or both. However, for us it is not just about raising money – walking into the dawn on the 9th May, we hold the glow of our shared memories of Anne, and in the warmth of sunrise her spirit walks beside us.
